Wild Garlic: Allium ursinum

 

Also known as Ramsons, this early spring flower fills Welsh woodlands with the scent of garlic during April and March. The scent alone is enough to identify this plant, but the clusters of star shaped white flowers and narrow green leaves are also distinctive. There are around 1,400 records of Wild Garlic in the SEWBReC database, but this evocative sign of spring is certain to be present in many more locations in south east Wales.
