Volunteering at SEWBReC

We are currently at capacity for office based volunteers and cannot accept further volunteers at this time.

SEWBReC is sometimes in the position to offer office based and/or home based volunteer opportunities, generally on a one day per week basis.

Please note, we are unfortunately not currently able to accommodate full time volunteers, nor work experience / student placements.

Common volunteer tasks include:

- Digitising local bird club records into Microsoft Excel

- Digitising other data sets, such as wildlife notebooks, using Excel or more specialist software such as Recorder 6

- Updating the SEWBReC website

- Helping with event preparation

Volunteering at SEWBReC offers the opportunity to gain an insight into the day to day running of a Local Environmental Records Centre and gives an excellent grounding in wildlife data entry techniques. Committed volunteers may build up to using specialist software including GIS programmes.

Volunteering Elsewhere

Volunteers at SEWBReC are entirely office based. If you are interested in volunteering outdoors, many of our partner organisations offer opportunities for gaining voluntary work experience in the environmental sector. This work ranges from practical conservation work through to participating in species surveys. Please take a look at our Local Wildlife Groups page for details of suitable organisations in your local area. You may also be interested in taking part in some of the events listed on our Events page, many of which include elements of training and the opportunity to build up a variety of skills. Get Involved in Recording

Another extremely valuable way to get involved in protecting and conserving your local biodiversity is to record the wildlife you see. After all, we can't protect what we don't know about. Visit our Introduction to Recording page for tips on how to get started.
