We can currently provide you with site boundary information for the South East Wales region. We can also provide SSSI citations.
We can currently provide you with boundary information for Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs) or Wildlife Sites for ten of the twelve Local Authorities that we cover (Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan). As the others become available we will add them to our products and services.
We also provide boundaries of other locally designated sites, such as Wildlife Trust Reserves, Local Nature Reserves and Regionally Important Geodiversity Sites.
We are now using the new NRW phase I habitats layer, an updated version of the original CCW dataset. Habitat data has been collected using remote sensing and plots provided are now more detailed, however may look more pixelated. If you need any help interpreting the habitats, or have any other questions about it, please do get in touch.
Certain mobile, high priority species (e.g. otter, great crested newt, bats etc) have been given a buffer to reflect their potential territory. The records may lie outside the specified search area but they should be taken into account in an ecological assessment due to the possibility of their using land within the search area as part of the territory, or for part of their life cycle. SEWBReC will report on mobile species where the buffer of the species intersects the search area.
SEWBReC will provide distances from the species record to the centre point of the search area for all searches based upon a grid reference or point.
