Each month we provide maps and information about poorly recorded 1km squares in south east Wales, in hopes of filling in the gaps in our maps!
The below map shows the density of records held by SEWBReC as at January 2017. [Click to enlarge]
If you would like to be emailed details of our Squares and Species of the Month, please sign up to our email list here.
If you can't get to any of the selected Squares of the Month, you can now pick your own square from maps of poorly recorded 1km squares in Gwent and Glamorgan.
In 2013, we began a project to fill in all the gaps in our maps - by asking local recorders to visit the 1km squares which contained zero records. After a year we nearly halved the number of these empty squares in the SEWBReC area - a fantastic achievement! We have now finished targeting all the "empty" squares, but continue to provide details of poorly recorded squares every month - generally those with 10 records or less.
Since 2014 we have also been selecting a "Species of the Month" - an under recorded yet common species which we would like more records for.
In 2016 we created maps showing all the poorly recorded squares in south east Wales, giving recorders the opportunity to "Pick Their Own" squares to target.
